What you need to know...
1. A cross country course is approximately 5 kilometers, or 3.1 miles. The course may be on grass or trails. The size of the race can range from two schools competing in a dual meet to as many as twenty schools competing to race in an invitational.
2. A varsity team consists of 7 runners with the top 5 scoring.
3. Scoring consists of a runner earning the number of points based on the place they finish. For instance, if the runner crosses the finish line in 1st place then they score 1 point for their team. If the runner crosses the finish line in 4th place then they score 4 points for their team. The team score is totaled based on the first 5 runners on the team to cross the finish line. Lowest team total wins. In the event of a tie, the teams will total the point values of their 6th and 7th runners.
4. There is more to our sport than just "running". To be successful in cross country, you must do a variety of workouts that help you achieve speed, strength, pace, and endurance.
5. Summer training is an essential part to our season. The July and August schedule is located on the website. In order to have a successful season we want to peak, running our best times, for the GMC Championship and States. Following the summer training will allow us to build volume gradually to increase intensity during the season.
